Design with CARE

CARE HOME is an initiative by the Helping Hand Charitable Trust designed and built to provide a shelter space for the patients admitted for treatments such as child leukaemia, cancer and kidney transplanted patients that need frequent visits to the hospital and need at most care.

Patients of Medical College at Calicut especially who travel from distant areas with such illness face difficulties in finding an accommodation throughout the treatment period. This home would thus cater such patients and their bystanders.

The Care home is a seven storied building with all amenities and around 100 beds with single, double and ward rooms and all facilities including guest room, canteen and pharmacy.

The spaces in the building were oriented by placing the public spaces such as Emergency care, Doctors room, counselling room, pharmacy, Library & Reading room etc. in the ground floors and the private spaces in the upper floors for a smooth functioning.

Patients are welcomed with spacious and well-furnished reception lobby of the care home. The material selection was done so as to bring more ambiance and peaceful atmosphere in the interiors which could make much impact on the patients. The warm lights and soft color scheme with wooden accents adds to this comfortable and peaceful feel. No compromise was made on the material quality that has been used in the interior. Even the paint used is non-toxic type, floor and wall materials being selected to be easier to clean and maintaining the hygiene.

Interior of the play area and rooms were designed and painted by few kids in the neighbourhood thus it resembles the childishness and innocence of a kid and adds vibrancy in these spaces. There are two basement floors which constitute the Dormitory, Dining Hall, Kitchen and service rooms.

The building also provides space for conducting seminars or conferences for doctors and patients as well in the ground floor.
